THE WOODLANDS, Texas — A strong storm swept through Montgomery County Wednesday night, bringing heavy rain, dark skies and frequent lightning from parts of Tropical Depression Edouard.
Conditions escalated quickly and a tornado warning was issued for the southern portion of the county, including The Woodlands, Porter Heights, Porter and New Caney around 7 p.m.
Residents shared photos and videos showing ominous clouds and what appeared to be funnel clouds as the storm rolled in. One clip captured a close lightning strike in the Rayford Road area. It was so close that the person recording it ran back inside for safety. Multiple Houston TranStar cameras also showed the storm’s movement into the region from three different perspectives.
KHOU 11 reporter Maria Aguilera, who was in Montgomery County Wednesday night, said conditions had calmed significantly by the time of her 10 p.m. newscast.
Despite the intensity of the storm, there were no immediate reports of major damage in Montgomery County. But it was a stark reminder of the region’s vulnerability to fast-moving severe weather, even when the broader system is only a tropical depression.
The storm was part of the lingering effects of Edouard, which we have been tracking for the last few days.
