60% of Americans say Trump isn’t honest and trustworthy. 58% say he doesn’t have the temperament to be president. 62% say Trump doesn’t care about people like them much (12%) or at all (51%).
One category Americans give Trump more credit for is forthrightness: 52% say Trump mostly says what he believes, and 34% say he says what he thinks people want to hear.
The words Americans are most likely to say do describe Trump, from a list of 13 positive and negative words, are all negative: “dangerous” (52% say this describes Trump), “corrupt” (49%), “racist” (45%), and “out-of-touch” (45%). The positive word Americans are most likely to say describes Trump is “bold” (43%). Far fewer say other positive words on the list describe Trump, including “strong” (36%), “intelligent” (32%), “effective” (30%), “honest” (24%), “steady” (18%), and “inspiring” (17%).
