One of the most talked about storylines this off-season for the Buffalo Bills was focused on former second round pick Keon Coleman. While there is no need to re-hash all of the drama that followed the Terry Pegula/Brandon Beane press conference, it is nice to see Coleman settling into his role with the Bills.
Coleman has posted some modest statistics through three games this season with 8 catches for 101 yards. It is certainly too early to start projecting off of those numbers, but if you did that would add up to a season with 45 catches and approximately 570 yards. Based on his first two seasons in Buffalo, and the addition of DJ Moore, this is a stat line that most would be OK with heading into the season. As is the case with most situations, the statistics only tell a part of the story.
What I have found most encouraging about Coleman has been his ability to make the most of the opportunities that he has been given. In week 2 he answered the call after Moore exited the game with an injury, catching all 6 of his targets for 63 yards in a 41-31 victory over the Detroit Lions. Coleman also corralled a 37 yard from Josh Allen near the goal line in week 3 that led to a critical touchdown just before the half. He also covered the onside kick to end the game, securing the Bills win over the Los Angeles Chargers.
I realize that this role, and these statistics, may not be what fans envisioned when the Bills drafted him in 2024. But as the Bills offense has evolved under head coach Joe Brady, I have been happy with Coleman’s production through the start of the season.
