Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are settling into their life back in England one low-key outing at a time. On October 1, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were photographed holding hands as they headed to The Falkland Arms, a historic, 16th-century British pub, for lunch.
The outing marked the first time the couple has been seen together in the U.K. since returning to Britain with their children in August.
The casual afternoon date was decidedly relaxed. Meghan wore an all-black look featuring a cozy sweater, which she paired with white sneakers, and Harry wore jeans, a navy blue jacket, and a Santa Barbara Fire Department baseball cap—a subtle nod to their California residence’s neighboring city.
Meghan reportedly ordered gluten-free fish and chips while Harry ordered an array of things including chicken, ham, and leek pie.
The local outing comes as Harry and Meghan get reacquainted with Britain for their extended stay.
This fits with what an insider said of the duchess’s priorities: “settling the kids in and settling themselves in,” the source said. “Very normal stuff.”
The Falkland Arms, located specifically in the village of Great Tew, Oxfordshire, prides itself on being charming and cozy. “Everyone here gets the royal treatment,” a regular at the pub reportedly said. “It doesn’t matter who you are. We’re lucky to get lots of different people visiting us, and everyone is treated like a local. When they visited, Harry and Meghan just acted like locals.”
