dpEagles offensive lineman Cam Jurgens is in the NFL’s concussion protocol after self-reporting symptoms on Monday, a league source confirmed to NBC Sports Philadelphia.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo first reported the news.
With the Eagles down a couple starters and surprisingly without Lane Johnson on Sunday, Jurgens played all 61 offensive snaps in the Eagles’ 24-20 loss to the Rams on Sunday afternoon. He even spoke to reporters in the locker room after the game.
If Jurgens, 27, is unable to play on Sunday in London against the Jaguars, the next man up would likely be second-year offensive lineman Willie Lampkin, who played the first two offensive snaps of his NFL career in Week 4.
Lampkin (5-11, 290) was one of the stars of training camp this summer. The Eagles claimed Lampkin off waivers after final cuts last summer from the Rams but got their first extended look at the former UDFA this training camp. They really liked what they saw. Lampkin earned his spot on the 53-man roster.
“I think Willie’s done a phenomenal job,” Landon Dickerson said in August. “He plays with great leverage, great feet. He’s a strong guy.
“He’s kind of like our little secret weapon when it comes to the D-linemen. I just don’t think he’s your typical size for an offensive lineman, which can be a game-changer going against defensive linemen.”
The only other offensive guard on the 53-man roster is 2026 sixth-round pick Micah Morris. The Eagles also have Jake Majors, John Ojukwu and Kiran Amegadjie on their practice squad.
Dickerson is still on IR with a bone bruise in his knee and isn’t eligible to return until at least Week 6. After Dickerson was placed on IR after Week 1, the Eagles shuffled their offensive line, sliding Jurgens to left guard and replacing him at center with Drew Kendall.
We’ll see what the Eagles elect to do this weekend. Lampkin played both guard and center all summer.
Jurgens started the last three games at left guard and has struggled. He is ranked 73rd out of 74 qualified guards in the NFL this season by ProFootballFocus. And PFF has charged Jurgens with a team-high 12 pressures that have all come at the left guard position. He gave up five pressures against the Rams, but it’s fair to wonder how much the concussion was affecting him during that game.
On Monday afternoon, head coach Nick Sirianni said he wasn’t thinking about making a switch at left guard by benching Jurgens.
“No, I’m pleased with where Cam is,” Sirianni said. “Again, with everybody, obviously we didn’t put out there the product that we want to put out there offensively yesterday, and then also combine that with a loss. There’s going to be plays he wants back, but there’s good moments also.
“I think that’s the consistency of everybody, from our coaches to our players, has to be the thing that continues to rise. That’s Cam, that’s everybody. But Cam is definitely doing good things and like us all, got to be more consistent at times as well.”
