dpAfter opening in 69, Brad Dalke was in good shape to make the cut at the BMW International Open. One round later, he’s in position to win it.
Dalke, a former amateur standout who made a bigger name as a golf influencer, shot 6-under 66 Friday in Munich, Germany, to sit two off the lead after 36 holes.
It’s Dalke’s DP World Tour debut. He’s in on a sponsor’s invitation – and making the most of it. The 28-year-old had seven birdies and one bogey in the second round to reach 9 under par. Hennie du Plessis (-11) leads three players by a shot, including Carlos Ortiz, Michael Hollick and Jack Senior.
“Obviously, I didn’t have a goal coming into this week,” said Dalke, who is T-5 with Paul Waring, Frederic LaCroix and Joe Dean.
“I just wanted to have some fun and enjoy it,” Dalke added. “And obviously, shooting 66 is pretty fun, so that helps the cause.”
Dalke, with brother Tommy on the bag, is playing in his first world-ranked tournament since 2020 on the Korn Ferry Tour. He was the 2016 U.S. Amateur runner-up and helped lead Oklahoma to the 2017 national championship. Most recently, he was a member of the Good Good Golf team.
Dalke’s Friday began with a wild tee shot into the right trees on the par-4 first. His recovery shot finished 12 feet from the hole, just off the green. He made that and then made another birdie from off the putting surface at No. 5.
He then produced three consecutive birdies on Nos. 9-11, making 5-, 28- and 6-foot birdie putts, respectively.
Dalke made another 28-footer at the 14th before his lone dropped shot of the day at No. 15. His round concluded with a traditional two-putt from 43 feet for birdie at the par-5 18th.
