dpDEARBORN, Mich. – Twenty-two people were arrested during the planned “Christian Crusader March” demonstration in Dearborn on Tuesday.
Hundreds of people gathered throughout the day on Aug. 18 outside the Henry Ford Centennial Library, where Dearborn City Council’s meeting was held, for what organizers called a “Christian Crusader March on Dearborn.”

As the meeting approached, riot police moved to break up the crowd as people rushed to enter the library.
Police limited the number of people allowed inside, while a group of protesters remained outside throughout the meeting. The city council meeting concluded without issue.
Most protesters were peaceful, according to Dearborn police on Wednesday. However, police arrested 22 people during the demonstration. No injuries were reported among the protesters, residents or police officers.
“Our officers met a challenging and rapidly evolving situation with the professionalism this community expects, keeping everyone safe, protecting the constitutional rights of those who came to be heard, and allowing the City Council to complete its business. I could not be prouder of them,” Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin said in a statement.
Those arrested ranged in age from 18 to 64 and came from across the state, including as far as New York and Tennessee. Police said the charges they face included a variety of misdemeanors, including breach of peace, disorderly conduct, and more.
