Downdetector showed a spike in AT&T outage reports. Customers reported trouble with internet and Wi-Fi service. AT&T says its network is operating normally.
HOUSTON — Thousands of AT&T customers across the Houston area reported issues on Monday, according to Downdetector, an online outage-tracking website.
Reports began climbing as users described issues with AT&T internet service. Some customers also reported difficulty loading Google services, including Google Search, Gmail and YouTube. There were also reports of AT&T being down in other Texas cities, including Dallas, Fort Worth and Austin.
Downdetector’s information is based on user-submitted reports and does not independently confirm the cause or size of an outage. The site reported more than 6,000 AT&T problem reports nationwide Monday, with a large share of complaints involving AT&T’s 5G home internet service, broadband internet and Wi-Fi.
It was not immediately clear how many Houston customers were affected, whether the issue was limited to internet service or whether it was connected to the separate reports involving Google products.
Google’s public status pages had not listed a companywide incident as reports of problems spread, according to published reports.
KHOU 11 News reached out for a comment, and AT&T said its network was operating normally in the area. On the X account for AT&T help, users publicly reported outages to the company.
Customers having trouble with their service can check AT&T’s outage information and restart equipment if advised by the company. People who need to make an emergency call should try another available phone or location if their usual service is unavailable.
By 6 p.m. Monday, Downdetector had far fewer outage reports.
This story has been updated with AT&T’s response and an update from Downdetector.
