YANN SOMMER made a bizarre error in Club Brugge’s Champions League opener against Aston Villa, leaving fans baffled.
The Swiss keeper made an absolute mess of throwing the ball out, resulting in him catching the ball outside his area.
Sommer, who made another costly error later in the half, saved convincingly from a Villa corner, only to make an absolute mess just moments later.
Attempting to start a counter attack, the 37-year-old dashed to the edge of his box to wind up a throw.
However he connected with team-mate Kyriani Sabbe and fumbled the throw.
This led to him bizarrely catching the ball outside the box.

Shocked fans took to social media to react to the chaotic moment, in which Sommer was not even shown a card.
One wrote: “How has Sommer avoided a yellow let alone a red. A mistake but it’s a deliberate hand ball outside the area catching it with a striker next to him.”
A second added: “What is he thinking.”
A third wrote: “Not sure how Sommer avoids a card there for just catching the ball outside his area.”
