dpA new Netflix video gives viewers another glimpse at Gillian Anderson‘s role in Animals. The brief scene adds more details about her character, Dayle, in Ben Affleck‘s new thriller.
In the video, Kerry Washington’s Abigail tells Dayle, “I looked you up. There’s nothing. Why should we trust you when you haven’t even given us your real name?” Dayle responds with a calm explanation that only deepens the mystery. She says, “Because when this is resolved…and it will be resolved, we all need to go back to our lives. I will not have been here. You will not have met me. And you will be more comfortable if I am comfortable.”
Netflix shared the clip and wrote, “Iconic Gillian Anderson performance incoming.”
Gillian Anderson’s performance is just one reason to watch Ben Affleck’s Animals
Anderson portrays Dayle, a mysterious fixer who brings an unsettling presence to the crisis. Her character appears to know more than she reveals, which makes every interaction with the couple feel uncertain. Netflix’s trailer also shows Dayle pressing Mark and Abigail to reveal the secrets they have kept from each other.
The film also gives Ben Affleck demanding roles both in front of and behind the camera. He plays Los Angeles mayoral candidate Mark Kimball while directing and co-writing the thriller. Kerry Washington plays Mark’s wife, while Steven Yeun, Adriana Paz, and Luis Gerardo Méndez feature as the main cast.
The film also focuses on the Kimballs’ marriage alongside the kidnapping. Affleck said the story explores what it means to commit to another person and the bargains that come with it. That idea adds a personal conflict to the larger thriller surrounding the political couple.
Animals run for 1 hour and 48 minutes and carry an R rating. It arrives on Netflix and in select theaters on October 9, 2026, giving viewers a chance to see Anderson in another high-profile thriller role.
