RAPID CITY — The Vermillion Tanagers moved up on the final day to place third in the South Dakota State Class A Girls’ Tennis Tournament, Tuesday in Rapid City.
Sioux Falls Christian claimed team honors with 600 points. Rapid City Christian (429) was second, followed by the Tanagers (267).
Vermillion’s Shelan Hinseth and Ellie Holdhusen finished third at flight two doubles, beating Rapid City Christian’s Nora Beckloff and Cora Love 10-8 in the third-place match. The Tanager duo dropped a 7-6 (4), 7-5 decision to Roncalli’s Gianna Cihak and Moilleigh Hofer in the semifinals.
Vermillion’s Sadie Dahlhoff finished fourth at flight five singles, dropping a 10-3 decision to Love of Rapid City Christian in the third-place match. Dahlhoff dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Sioux Falls Christian’s Mattie Stroh in the semifinals.
Vermillion’s Katie Yoon and Sakarra White-Davis finished fourth at flight one doubles, dropping a 10-4 decision to Lennox’s Karlie Bosma and Brooke Buehner in the third-place match. Sioux Falls Christian’s Mackenzie Boyle and Anna Westenberg topped the Tanager duo 6-4, 6-0 in the semifinals.
Vermillion’s Dahlhoff and Dylyn Wagner placed fourth at flight three doubles, dropping a 10-7 decision to Roncalli’s Abigail Andersen and Nydia Nora in the third-place match. Sioux Falls Christian topped the Tanager duo 6-0, 6-3 in the semifinals.
Yoon finished fifth at flight one singles with a 10-7 victory over Madison’s Sienna Maxwell. Yoon beat Lennox’s Buehner 10-2 in the fifth-place semifinals.
White-Davis beat Huron’s Idella Meyer 10-2 for fifth place at flight two singles. White-Davis beat Lennox’s Nora Alustiza Roitegui 10-4 in the fifth-place semifinals.
Hinseth beat Spearfish’s Calisa Alderson 10-5 for fifth at flight three singles. Hinseth beat Milbank’s Payton Lamp 10-7 in the fifth-place semifinals.
Holdhusen dropped a 10-4 decision to Grace Herrington of Rapid City Christian in the fifth-place semifinals at flight five singles. Wagner dropped a 10-3 decision to Aberdeen Roncalli’s Lydia Nora in the fifth-place semifinals at flight six singles.
