Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) is preparing to become a first-time father on Chicago P.D., which returned for Season 14 on Wednesday, October 7.
To recap, sparks flew after Atwater reconnected with his Academy peer, Officer Tasha Fox (Karen Obilom). And though Fox had plans to move to Miami soon, they slept together ahead of her leaving. Fox later returned to Chicago with big news: She was pregnant. Atwater was delighted to hear the news and soon started thinking about next steps with Fox as they planned to become parents and explore their romance further.

Chicago P.D.‘s Season 14 premiere (“Demolition”) gave viewers an exciting update about Atwater and Fox’s little one. Here’s what happened:
Kevin Atwater got big news on the Chicago P.D. Season 14 premiere
As the Intelligence Unit worked its latest case, Atwater squeezed in a quick phone call to Fox, who was in Florida, while grabbing coffee.
“I’m not going to call you every 20 minutes,” Atwater told Fox, though he’d been frequently dialing her for baby updates. “I just felt like the baby was on the way.”
“Oh my god, you’re going to drive her insane, Kev,” Atwater’s buddy Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) quipped while rolling her eyes.
“Yes, that’s Burgess,” Atwater told an inquisitive Fox before adding, “No, she’s not being nice.”
After hanging up, Atwater didn’t have much time to daddle as the Intelligence Unit caught wind of a homicide. Atwater helped Officer Eva Imani (Ari Mandi) and the rest of the Intelligence Unit expos a corrupt parole officer. Despite the culprit’s attempts to evade justice, Atwater disarmed and apprehended them before it was too late. Not even five minutes after cuffing the perp, Atwater got a phone call.

“Hey — what?” Atwater said after picking up the phone. It was Fox, confirming she was in labor. “Are you serious, or are you playing? Is the baby coming? You sure? You are? OK,” Atwater said.
Atwater remained stunned as he processed the news, but luckily his Intelligence Unit pals were there to back him up. “Kev, go!” Imani told him, waving him away from the crime scene. “Go!”
Atwater gathered his bearings as Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Fleuger) offered him a ride to the airport. It was finally go time. As they ran off toward Ruzek’s car, Imani shouted after Atwater, “Good luck!”
