dpAfter a mostly sunny Saturday, a quick-hitting system brings rain and possibly heavy downpours through Sunday morning, mainly across Southern New England, where flood watches are in effect from Boston into Southeastern Massachusetts, the Worcester area, Rhode Island, and across eastern Connecticut.
This area of scattered to widespread showers should exit the region by mid-afternoon. Rainfall totals will vary town-to-town, but some heavier rain could reach up to 2 inches in spots, most likely south of the Mass Pike. More “localized narrow bands of 2-4 inches of rain are possible within a three-hour period,” the National Weather Service in Norton said Sunday.
The dew points will rise dramatically to around 70, making it feel muggy with all the tropical-like air.
Greater Boston: Readings will reach the low 70s Sunday afternoon after morning showers. Some brightening is possible before sunset.
Central and Western Mass.: Look for showers Sunday morning, near 60 at sunrise. Afternoon highs will reach the low to mid-70s Sunday afternoon.
Southeastern Mass.: Look for a period of showers the first half of Sunday. Temperatures in the low 60s Sunday at sunrise and then rise to the low 70s on Sunday.
Cape Cod and the islands: It’s near 60 by Sunday morning with showers and maybe some heavier downpours the first part of the morning and then cloudy skies the rest of the day. Temperatures in the 70s.
Rhode Island: On Sunday, showers in the morning with clouds lingering in the afternoon. Highs 70-75 with humidity.
New Hampshire: Readings will be in the 50s Sunday morning. There may be a few showers with partly sunny skies on Sunday in the second half of the afternoon, and highs 70-75.
