The cause of death has been revealed for Chicago Bulls’ three-time NBA champion Stacey King.
King, who also called Bulls games for more than 20 years, died from hypertensive cardiovascular disease — an issue caused by long-term high blood pressure — according to the California Post.
The report added that obesity was a contributing factor to King’s death and that the manner of death was natural.
King died Sunday, June 7, 2026. He played for the Bulls from 1989 to 1994.
“Stacey King was a cherished member of the Bulls family and one of the truly unique personalities in our organization’s history,“ Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf said at the time. “His connection to Chicago, the Bulls and our fans spanned more than three decades — first as a player and later as the unmistakable voice that helped bring Bulls basketball into the homes of generations of fans.
“We will miss him deeply and remember the joy, energy, humor, candor and passion he brought to our organization, our broadcasts and our fans every day. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.”
A former University of Oklahoma star, King was drafted by the Bulls in the first round of the 1989 NBA Draft.
He appeared in all 82 games as a rookie, averaging 8.9 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
King played in at least 76 games each of the next three seasons for the Bulls as Chicago won three consecutive NBA titles.
Later in his career, King played for the Timberwolves, Heat, Celtics and Mavericks.
Across eight NBA seasons, King averaged 6.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.
