dpThe former Darien estate of acting royalty — Christopher Plummer — is back on the market with a $12.995 million price tag.
One of only 24 individuals to have won the “Triple Crown of Acting” (Tony, Emmy and Oscar), Plummer commanded the screen for seven decades in prominent roles with “The Sound of Music,” “Knives Out,” “Waterloo,” “The Man Who Would Be King,” “The Fall of the Roman Empire” and “Up.” On the stage, Plummer shined in roles in “Cyrano,” “Barrymore,” “Othello” and “King Lear.”
Plummer lived in Darien in the late 70’s before moving to Weston, where he resided for nearly 40 years. Plummer died in his Weston home in 2021 at the age of 91. Last year, his wife Elaine Taylor donated eight acres of their property to the Aspetuck Land Trust, supporting it create a 750-acre nature preserve along the town border.
The property last sold for $11.2 million in 2015, according to town property records. Zillow records note that the property was on-and-off the market in 2019 and 2020 with a last listed price of $10.5 million.
The property — a 7,610 square-foot Colonial built in 1866 — includes 200 feet of waterfront frontage with its own private beach as well as a swimming pool. Ornate chandeliers dot the house while the interior blends water views with old-world design elements. The listing notes that the current owners have renovated and restored the house. The house is located on a 1.17 acres of land with five bedrooms and eight bathrooms.
