GALLATIN, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Gallatin Police Department is warning residents and commuters about a structure fire that forced a whole block to close on Wednesday morning.
Gallatin PD reported that a detached garage behind a residence on Coles Ferry Road caught fire, and the fire department responded with multiple crews to battle the blaze just after 6 a.m.
Firefighters encountered a fully engulfed structure when they arrived and worked to contain the flames.
One resident said she heard and felt an explosion that shook her house on Wednesday morning.
An adjacent building belongs to the Animal Rescue Corps, and employees reported that a nearby building exploded and sent embers onto their property. Animal Rescue Corps staff were putting out flaming embers as they floated over from the burning building behind them.
No injuries were reported. The Gallatin Fire Chief said the homeowner had medical equipment on the property where the fire started, and several oxygen cylinders exploded from the flames.
Coles Ferry Road is shut down between Woods Ferry Road and Wouth Westland Avenue to allow firefighters room to contain the flames.
Drivers were urged to find alternate routes during the incident.
