Great white shark spotted next to children; El Nino to increase sightings

A 10-foot great white shark was filmed off the coast of southern California this week, swimming close to a group of children.

And the incredible drone footage is enough to raise the hairs of even the most devoted shark lover.

The footage was filmed from a drone by Carlos Gauna.

“I don’t normally get really excited or really nervous, because I’ve seen it play over and over,” Gauna told “Good Morning America.” “But, when it involves young adults and kids, I do get nervous. This shark was bigger than those kids.”

Today recently reported a public beach north of Los Angeles is a hotbed for juvenile great white sharks. Researchers call it a “shark nursery.”

The shark surge, per the report, is a result of an El Nino, which is expected to increase shark sightings in the area by more than 100 percent, but attacks aren’t expected to rise.

Research, per Today, indicates that when sharks and people swim together, there are no attacks 97 percent of the time.

The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said earlier this month this year’s El Nino, which is a natural warming of the equatorial Pacific that alters weather patterns across the globe, has an 81 percent chance of becoming “very strong.”

In other words, a Super El Nino is coming.
