Taylor Sheridan has no shortage of hit shows, and Mayor of Kingstown has forged its own path outside the spotlight of Yellowstone and the rest of his biggest television franchises on Paramount+, but the show’s impact is rippling through another streaming giant.
Just three days after all four seasons arrived on Netflix, Mayor of Kingstown has already climbed to No. 5 on the streamer’s worldwide TV chart. The Jeremy Renner-led crime thriller sits behind East of Eden, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Not a Stranger and Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story on Netflix’s October 8 global ranking.
‘Mayor of Kingstown’ Is Finding a Much Bigger Audience
Created by Sheridan and Hugh Dillon, Mayor of Kingstown takes place in the fictional Michigan town of Kingstown, where prisons are the center of nearly everything.
Mike McLusky (Renner) operates as the unofficial mayor, moving between inmates, prison guards, gangs, police and politicians as he tries to keep a town built around incarceration from tearing itself apart.
The show has always had a darker edge than some of Sheridan’s better-known series. That darker approach has earned the series a growing reputation, too. ScreenRant recently called Mayor of Kingstown a “crime thriller masterpiece” while making the case for new viewers to check it out on Netflix.
‘Mayor of Kingstown’ Season 5 Is Coming Soon
The timing couldn’t be much better for Mayor of Kingstown to find a second life on Netflix. Paramount+ has already renewed the series for a fifth and final season. The upcoming season will consist of eight episodes and will bring Mike McLusky’s story to its conclusion.
Jeremy Renner is returning, along with Edie Falco, Hugh Dillon, Taylor Handley, Tobi Bamtefa and other familiar faces. David Morse is also joining the final season as Russell Hardy, an FBI agent who arrives in Kingstown looking for the fugitive Callahan and threatens to upset the town’s already shaky balance of power.
Paramount+ has not announced a premiere date yet.
