Aston Villa vs. Newcastle United: The matchup
Newcastle is 2-2-2 through its first six matches and enters the weekend sitting 11th in the Premier League standings with eight points. Last time out, Newcastle suffered a disappointing 4-1 loss to Coventry City in a contest where they created three big chances to none for Coventry City and held possession for 67% of the match, but simply couldn’t keep their opponents off the scoreboard. Jack Rudoni scored on a penalty in the sixth minute, and Sidici Cherif found the back of the net early in the second half to stake Coventry City to a 2-0 lead. Newcastle cut the deficit to 2-1 on Sven Botman goal in the 70th minute, but goals from Ellis Simms and Stephen Mfuni in the 81st and 86th minutes pushed the game back out of reach.
Aston Villa is on a run of five straight matches scoring at least two goals and is 4-1-0 over that stretch and 1-1-0 in Premier League play. Last time out, Villa exploded for six goals in a 6-0 win over Fenerbahce in Champions League action. Villa is 1-2-3 through six Premier League matches and is 16th in the league standings with five points, a slow start the club hopes gives way to a continued run of success.
