dpThe grass court season continues this week in Berlin with a very strong field featuring the top two players in the world in Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina. Day 2 will surely feature some fantastic grass court tennis, with several interesting matchups that should be very close and decided by very slight margins, as often happens on grass.

Magdalena Frech vs Eva Lys
Head-to-head: first meeting
Frech has reached the main draw as a lucky loser, but given how close this matchup is on paper those two matches on grass might well make the difference in her favor, given how Lys is yet to play on grass this season. In any case, it should be a very close match, with a few key points ultimately deciding the outcome, perhaps even tiebreaks.
Prediction: Frech in 3
Katerina Siniakova vs Rebeka Masarova
Head-to-head: Masarova 1-0 Siniakova
Both players showed an excellent level in qualifying to reach this main draw, so both will be quite motivated and confident coming into this match. Although Masarova won the only match they have played so far last year, that was on clay and on grass the matchup dynamics should be quite different. It should be a close match, but Siniakova is generally the better and more consistent player of the two, and she should end up prevailing.

Clara Tauson vs Diane Parry
Head-to-head: Parry 1-0 Tauson
Tauson might be the far higher ranked player of the two, but she comes into this tournament on a six-match losing streak, including last week on grass, while Parry had a fantastic run at Roland Garros and played some excellent tennis in qualifying here. Given their current forms, Parry has a very good chance to continue her strong momentum by winning here.

Elina Svitolina vs Anna Kalinskaya
Head-to-head: Svitolina 3-1 Kalinskaya
Svitolina is having an incredible season so far, with constant deep runs and even a big title in Rome. She is certainly good enough on grass to be seen as a dark horse for Wimbledon, and she has the ability to have a strong run this week, even if Kalinskaya (who beat her in Doha earlier this year) is far from an ideal opponent for her first match here.
