DENNIS. CAITLIN, WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED SO FAR? WELL, RHONDELLA, AT THIS POINT, INVESTIGATORS THAT WE DID SEE ON SCENE EARLIER HAVE LEFT, BUT WHAT WE HAVE JUST LEARNED FROM THE WOMAN WHO CLAIMS TO BE THE OWNER OF MOONFISH CAF CAFE HERE ALONG ROUTE 28. SHE SAYS THAT THERE WAS IN FACT A SHOOTING IN THIS RESTAURANT LATE LAST NIGHT. SHE SAYS SHE SERVED THIS MALE VICTIM A DRINK AROUND 1140 AT NIGHT, AND THAT’S WHEN SHOTS RANG OUT. SHE HEARD A LOUD BANG BANG, AS SHE DESCRIBES IT, AND EVERYONE IN THIS RESTAURANT RAN TO THE BACK OF THE BUILDING JUST TO GET OUT AND BE SAFE. WE ARE TOLD THAT BY HER THAT THERE IS ONE PERSON THAT DIED IN HER RESTAURANT LAST NIGHT. AGAIN, THIS INFORMATION IS LIMITED. SHE DESCRIBED A MALE VICTIM IN HIS 40S. SHE DID NOT SEE A SUSPECT. INFORMATION STILL LIMITED RIGHT NOW. BUT THAT IS WHAT WE KNOW FROM THIS WOMAN. SHE ALSO SAYS AT THIS POINT, IT’S TIME TO CLEAN UP. IT IS JUST HER CAR IN THIS RESTAURANT. SHE’S BEEN UP SINCE EARLY YESTERDAY MORNING, AND NOW THE FOCUS IS JUST ON CLEANING UP AND PUTTING THE PIECES BACK TOGETHER HERE AND HOPING TO REOPEN AT SOME POI
Dennis police and the Cape and Islands District Attorney are investigating an apparent shooting overnight at the Moonfish Restaurant on Route 28. While officials have not yet responded to requests for comment, owner Velma Mitchell told NewsCenter 5 that a patron was fatally shot inside. She said it happened around 11:40 p.m. Friday. She further said that the victim, who she did not know, was served his last drink shortly before everyone heard the pop of gunfire. The victim, a man in his 40s, was killed, she said. “The guy I served, like, after 5 or 10 minutes, I heard ‘pop pop pop.’ But I thought it was a balloon,” she said. “But then I said, ‘Why would someone be popping balloons?’ I saw everyone running out to the back door and saying, ‘He’s dead, he’s dead. I know he is dead.'”She did not see who fired the shots. “Someone came in and killed somebody, and they’re killing my business,” Mitchell said. “I bought this place to make something out of it.”Numerous investigators were seen working at Moonfish until early Saturday morning, but their work appeared to conclude around 6:30 a.m.The owner, who said she had not slept, explained the business was hiring clean-up help.
