The New York Giants and veteran defensive tackle Dean Lowry have been linked together for weeks. It appears that Lowry and the Giants are finally coming together, with Dan Duggan of The Athletic reporting that Lowry will join the practice squad.
A Giants source confirmed that Lowry is, indeed, signing with the team’s practice squad.
Lowry, 32, has played in 132 NFL regular-season games with 85 starts over nine seasons. A fourth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Lowry spent seven seasons with the Green Bay Packers. He has also spent a year with both the Minnesota Vikings and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Lowry, 6-foot-6, 296 pounds, spent last season on IR with the Steelers after tearing his ACL in training camp.
The Giants and Lowry were rumored to have mutual interest in early September, but a signing never happened.
New York has continued to look for veteran defensive tackle help throughout the season to support D.J. Reader and Shelby Harris. Right now, the Giants have three younger players — Darius Alexander, Bobby Jamison-Travis, and C.J. Okoye — in rotation behind Reader and Harris.
Perhaps Lowry can provide some help during the second half of the season.
