dpESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit has a pretty good idea where “College GameDay” is heading in two weeks from now.
The 40th season of “College GameDay” kicked off in Baton Rouge, as Herbstreit and the crew covered a matchup between Clemson and LSU. One week later, the popular ESPN show made its way to the Lone Star State to preview what ended up being a classic between Ohio State and Texas.
“College GameDay” is in Oxford this weekend to cover Lane Kiffin’s return to Ole Miss. Both he and the LSU football team are expected to face a hostile crowd at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
Although Week 5 isn’t here yet, Herbstreit teased that “College GameDay” could make its way over to North Carolina for the first time since November 1997. Bill Belichick’s squad is set to host Notre Dame on October 3.
“If North Carolina beats Clemson, I would think Notre Dame at North Carolina is probably the leader in the clubhouse,” Herbstreit said on Pat McAfee’s ESPN show.
Now that Herbstreit shared that information, North Carolina’s showdown with Clemson looks a lot more interesting.
Another Week 5 destination we can’t ignore.
If North Carolina fails to take down Clemson this weekend, the pressure shifts over to Iowa.
On paper, a Week 5 matchup between Iowa and Ohio State seems awfully intriguing. However, the Hawkeyes need to take care of business to make sure they’re worth getting special treatment from “College GameDay.”
For what it’s worth, “College GameDay” hasn’t been to Iowa City in a long, long time.
