dpTuesday was a big day for Renown as they celebrated a new medical center coming to Sparks with a groundbreaking ceremony.
Renown tells us this project will be wrapped up, and patients will be seen by the end of 2027.
They tell us they’re excited to bring more health care services to the growing community in Sparks.
Brian Erling, Renown Health’s President and CEO, told us, “We serve Northern Nevada as the only academic, not-for-profit health system, so every penny that we earn, we reinvest into the health of our community, and a big commitment from that is to grow where our community is growing, and this community has been growing extremely rapidly, and so we’re very excited to bring these services to Sparks.”
They told us it’s important to them to provide care throughout all of northern Nevada, and that means making the drive to the doctor less time-consuming.
Erling also said, “When we first looked at this project, the drive time was 22 minutes from here down to Renown Regional, and that was during prime. You know, a good time, so add some traffic, add growth over the next 5 to 10 years. And that drive is going to become more and more difficult, so we want to be here and meet our community’s needs.”
Something else that was mentioned during the ceremony was the need to give families access to more specialists here at home.
Renown says they are working to reduce the need for families to travel out of state for health care.
Sam Weller, the CEO of Renown South Meadows, told us, “Part of our strategic plan at Renown Health is to expand those services so that people don’t have to travel even further out of our community and out of state so they can have it here, and local people receive care and recover close to home.”
Renown continues by telling us they want to make this new medical center a one-stop shop for the community’s health care needs.
Erling said, “This is going to be a 120,000 square foot building. It’s going to have 134 exam rooms serving primary care, urgent care, rotating medical and surgical specialists, pharmacy, imaging lab. We’re even going to have a procedural area with some operating rooms.”
Renown also tells us they’ll be leaving additional space open to add different services as the needs of the community grow.
