Power mostly restored after Long Beach Peninsula hit by ‘major’ outage – Chinook Observer

LONG BEACH PENINSULA — The north end of the Long Beach Peninsula is mostly back online after temporarily going dark due to what the Pacific County PUD called a “major outage” in the midst of strong winds that have brought gusts of up to 60 miles per hour.

The PUD, in a notice posted on its website and on its Facebook page at around 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, said a downed transmission line had taken a substation out of service and left all of Klipsan Beach, Ocean Park, Surfside and Oysterville without power.

PUD crews responded to repair the transmission line, with the public utility district initially saying it did not yet have an estimated restoration time.

“A substation outage is a bigger repair than a typical line call, and we’d rather give you a real number than a guess — we’ll post one as soon as we have it,” the PUD stated.

But the PUD confirmed power in the vast majority of the peninsula was back online by 7:45 p.m. after it said the substation was back in service.

“One outage is still open,” the district noted. “Customers near 282nd Street at Q and R Streets in Ocean Park are still without power, and we’re estimating about two hours to restoration there. Crews are on it.”

The district’s customer service team has been activated, but the PUD urged customers in the affected communities that they did not need to report this outage. Those with an urgent need or question are asked to call 360-642-3191.

While the power is out, the PUD also advised those running a generator to keep it outside and well away from windows and doors — and never in a garage or crawlspace.

“Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed,” the PUD added. “And if you have a neighbor who relies on medical equipment or who might not see this post, check on them.”
