President Donald Trump spent his opening remarks at his Wednesday rally in Chillicothe, Ohio reflecting on the physical attributes of Sen. Jon Husted, grousing over media coverage of his comments from the trail as he again spoke admiringly of the incumbent Republican.
“I was examining that man for his physical prowess, and I got it — when he stood up, I looked at him, I looked him all over the place, and I should have never said what I said, but I said I started by looking at his ass, and it was strong as hell,” Trump said. “And the problem is the fake news … they said, ‘I looked at his ass,’ and they cut. And then they, all night long, they say, ‘Why did he say that?’ In other words, they just went cut, and it didn’t look good for me.”
Trump has seemed preoccupied with Husted’s physical appearance since campaigning for the Ohio senator during a rally in Ohio earlier this month. During that rally, he told supporters he hadn’t noticed Husted’s appearance until former NFL Coach Jon Gruden told him Husted played football in college.
“He was an All-American football player, and when Jon Gruden said he was the best player on the team — and I think they were, like, a championship team, a great team,” the president said. “And I don’t do this with men very often. I started examining his body, because I didn’t know he was a great athlete.”
Since then, he’s brought up Husted’s physical appearance at campaign rallies across the country, including stops in North Carolina, Michigan and Texas, where he joked he’d say the same thing about Republican candidate Ken Paxton, “but I’m not sure your body is going to qualify.”
