Latest Knicks Rumors Reveal New Contract for Impending Restricted Free Agent After Winning NBA Title

After one season with the New York Knicks, Mohamed Diawara has earned a multiyear deal.

Per ESPN’s Shams Charania, the restricted free agent plans to sign a multiyear, $10-plus million deal.

Diawara, who grew up in France and played professionally there for four years, was drafted by the Knicks with the 51st overall pick in 2025. He appeared in 69 games for New York during the regular season, averaging 3.6 points and 1.4 rebounds per game while playing 9.2 minutes per contest.

He didn’t have too big a role in the postseason, as he appeared in just six games, posting 1.2 points per contest, most of which came during blowouts.

SNY’s Ian Begley noted that Diawara “was certainly going to get significant interest from other teams” had he hit restricted free agency, but the big man “felt welcomed” by the Knicks from the moment he arrived, which gave New York an advantage.

Now having retained Diawara, the Knicks have a few other contract decisions to make this offseason.

Scrappy backup guard Jose Alvarado’s $4.5 million player option initially had a deadline of Tuesday, but he agreed to move it to after the draft. If he hits free agency, The Athletic’s John Hollinger reported that Alvarado could make up to $10 million per year.

New York would surely like to have Alvarado back, but whether it can outbid another squad remains to be seen.

Of course, the Knicks also must decide what to do about Karl-Anthony Towns, who is eligible for a four-year, $272 million contract, but they have a bit more time since he is under contract next season and has a player option in 2027-28.
