EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings are visiting Soldier Field to face the Chicago Bears at noon (CT) Sunday, Sept. 20.
The 131st meeting between division rivals will be the 10th Week 2 meeting in NFL history between teams that each scored 35+ points in Week 1.
The Vikings (39) and Bears (59) combined for 98 points in Week 1, the most in NFL history by teams that then face each other in Week 2 (prior record was 89 in Week 1 by the 1954 Rams and 49ers before meeting in Week 2).
Minnesota’s point total resulted from a fourth-quarter “avalanche” of momentum that was boosted by two turnovers and short-field touchdowns as the Vikings outscored the Packers 22-0 in the final period of Week 1.
Chicago racked up 291 rushing yards and became the third team in NFL history to score six rushing touchdowns in a season opener, joining the 1920 Rock Island Independents and 1922 Canton Bulldogs.
Minnesota Defensive Coordinator Brian Flores and Chicago’s Dennis Allen are in the lab.
The contest will be broadcast to a significant part of the country by FOX.
